Building Valuation

Insurance Brokers Southampton

When was the last time you checked your building sum insured?

As specialists in insurance for village halls and community buildings, one of the questions we are asked most often by hall committee members is “How do we ensure that our buildings sum insured is adequate?”

This is a particularly difficult issue. The sum insured must be sufficient to rebuild the property in the event of an insured event – a fire, for example – and it must allow for site clearance, architects’ fees and VAT, amongst other things.

Accurate Building Valuations

Norris & Fisher have arranged a facility to help hall committees establish an accurate sum insured for their buildings without the expense of a traditional on‑site survey. We work with a specialist surveying provider who uses the latest digital mapping technology together with an extensive database of rebuilding costs for all types of property construction in the UK. Their advanced mapping systems are supported by reputable national data sources, including Ordnance Survey and Land Registry.

To ensure the most accurate valuations, our surveying partner undertakes detailed research into each property. This may include reviewing Local Authority planning records, information held on community and village hall websites, and RICS building cost data.

By combining this research with their digital mapping software, they calculate the external footprint of the building and assess the reinstatement sum insured, taking into account construction type, location, additional facilities, access, and debris removal considerations.

We are pleased to offer this service free of charge to our current Village Hall clients at policy renewal. If you would like to take advantage of this service, please click below to request a valuation. Once received, we will instruct our surveying provider to prepare a valuation report. A copy of their report, along with our advice regarding your sums insured, will then be sent to you.
